Well, semi… I mean, I am watching him and interacting with him while I write this.. But still, I know I should be REALLY playing with him.
He’s building this 50 piece puzzle on his own, he’ll be 3 next month. Let me brag!
so I’m not paying attention to him because I know he’s capable of doing it, and I’m trying to let him do it by himself. He’s in a phase where he wants to play with us AT ALL TIMES!
So a little independence is not so bad.

Writing this last bit took me what, 3 or 4 minutes at the most. Why? Let me share a chat I had with hubs today. Note that my husband has been in a self questioning phase. He’s thinking he has been pronouncing the word “both” wrong his whole life. He says he’s pronounced it “bolth” where it should be pronounced something else. Honestly I can barely make the difference, but it’s an existential crisis right now for him, so give him some respect. don’t poke fun, ok!?

Monsieur le député, monsieur le maire,

Je viens de recevoir un appel d’un CPE à Outremont pour mon fils qui aura 3 ans en septembre. Ils ont une place pour lui. Je l’avais mis sur leur liste d’attente un peu aprés sa naissance (le 18 aout 2007)…. je suis obligée de refuser cette place car j’habite sur le Plateau et que je n’ai pas de voiture. La peu de disponibilité des transports en commun me forcerait à lui faire prendre 2 bus (pour un trajet total de plus de 40min) J’avais mis mon fils sur leur liste d’attente car je l’avais mis sur TOUTES les listes d’attentes (comme tout le monde le fait), en espérant qu’il y aurait une place vers ses 1 an à côté de chez moi puisque c’est la fin du congé de maternité. J’attend toujours, il a 2 ans et 9 mois!

1ère question: Comment se fait-il qu’il y ait des places de CPE dans d’autres arrondissements tandis que je n’ai encore eu aucun appel pour une place dans un CPE proche de chez nous (comme le CPE Harmonie, à 2 blocs de chez nous).

Nous sommes plusieurs mères qui vivont la même situation, c’est à dire que nous attendons le bon vouloir des CPE pour pouvoir retouner au travail.

2ème question: Je suis propriétaire sur le Plateau depuis 3 ans, je paye plus de $3100 de taxes municipales et scolaires par an. Proportionnellement les taxes sont moins élevées à Outremont mais il y aurait plus de places de CPE. Comment expliquez vous cela?

3ème question: Pourquoi est-ce que les CPE ne sont pas soumis aux mêmes lois de proximité que les écoles primaires?

4ème question: Pourquoi est-ce que les CPE sont, pour la plupart, passés à Enfance Famille comme liste “centrale”? Ce système est peu pratique pour nous, les parents: Nous n’avons plus la possibilité de savoir où nous en sommes sur les fameuses “listes d’attente”. Il semblerait notamment que les places ne soient pas attribuées dans l’ordre d’inscriptions. Nombre d’entre nous avons vu des enfants, inscrits aprés les notres, obtenir des places avant.

5ème question: Pourquoi les listes d’attentes ne sont-elles pas publiques? Ce manque de transparence et les injustices flagrantes (tel enfant inscrit plusieurs mois après un autre mais ayant une place parce que le père ou la mère “connaissent” quelqu’un) dont nous sommes témoins nous poussent à coire que l’argent de nos impôts et taxes n’est pas utilisé à notre avantage.

6ème question: Pourquoi est-ce que la garderie privée où va mon fils (L’Envol, infrastructure installée depuis 13 ans) se voit refusée d’être subventionnée quand elle le demande, et se voit répondre que les accords de subventions ne sont donnés qu’aux nouvelles garderies?

7ème question: Pourquoi est-ce que la ville a investi dans un systeme de transport (Bixi) qui n’est pas adapté à nos besoins de parents? On ne peut ni attacher de siège enfants ni de remorques. Ne sont-ils pas en déficit important? La priorité n’est-elle pas de placer tous les enfants de notre ville dans un système d’éducation?

Comment est-ce que la ville de Montréal espère garder les familes sur lîle si nous n’avons pas de place pour nos enfants alors que nous payons autant de taxes?

Ma dernière question est, de loin, la plus urgente: Avec les taxes que nous payons, et sans places en garderie, est-ce que vous pouvez nous dire quand nous allons pouvoir retourner au travail?

That’s right, I NEVER write here anymore…. But it’s not for a lack of will, it’s just that I’m a little busy and spreading it thin lately.

So we started this project with my sister, an online-whole-awesome ~~interactive~~goodness-from-outerspace-type-o’-project. And guess who’s supposed to do the design and stuff? That’s right, yours truly. Except I don’t know why I get myself into these situations. I mean, I’m no designer, I dabble, that’s what I do!

Anyway, it’s cool, it’l be what it is, and I’m sure you guys will love it too… Well, you better ‘cause we’ll be bombarding twitter with it! hehe >-}

Just to give an update on personal things, though. Son is doing ok, his daycare is rehearsing their end of the year show that will take place on wednesday. woohoo!—- Well, sure woohoo it is, whatever, I mean, I don’t want to sound like a horrible mother, but it’s ok. I love when my son comes out, because he’s my son, but come on, they are around 3 years old, they just stand there and look at us in the audience. It’s cute, it’s just that I don’t want to see the other kids necessarily! That and the fact that the song selection always has to be these annoyingly high, almost whining women singing them. Why is it kids can’t have real music? My son doesn’t like all this crap! What’s up with that chick here who’s famous like Mc Donald’s, her name is Annie Brocoli? What!? DO you really think my son is stupid? Brocoli? The first time he heard that he looked at me (2.5 years old) and asked me where they had put Michael Jackson, and Manu Katché (for those who don’t know, Manu Katché is a drummer, mostly famous for playing with Peter Gabriel)…

Ok, ok, I’ll stop the rant here, but know this, I”m not a bad mother, the song selection committee is the bad educator!

On to daughter. Doing better. Reflux still here, but not as bad. I mean, she’ll throw up on you and all, and it’ll be a fountain coming out of her mouth, but it’s not so stressful as it used to be. That means it probably got better. I don’t know. She’s, unfortunately for her, the second kid. I noticed yesterday at the park that she was eating grass. Err. Whatever… Do you know the amount of stress I put on my son when he was that age!? oy! That’s where I was a bad mother, always sterilizing his environment, like he was sick or something. Ok, whatever is the word today!

I digress.

Daughter is doing good, she’s quite the easy child actually, now that we’re over colic, no sleep etc. She sleeps night very well, she’s even starting naps and all, and she’s smiles ALL THE TIME! The child will not stop. Now she’s even dancing to top it off. I’ve got dancers for children, they won’t stop. EVER!

Oh you noticed, we’re a happy family. yeah yeah yeah… No, stop vomiting right now, you ingrate, I write here, and all you can do is make fun of me. pfff. Shame on you!

On this note, I leave you for another 300 years until I write here again. Oh but I will let you know at the end of the month when our super duper hormonal nymph gynic site comes out!

Week-end in the country and the fairy house

I never write anymore, I know. That’s because I’ve been working on a big web site project. So I’m dealing with baby being 8 months old, mostly always sick, and not really sleeping, and also building a web site that is supposed to be a different concept than others.

So without this being a complaint at all, I’m a little busy, ya know!

This week I took the kids to the country to my parents’ house though, because it’s the end of the year and son has been way too tired, he needed a vacation!

There is a big yard here, with lots of trees and even a river. A lot of it looks like an enchanted forest.

When Manu and I were talking about all the fairies that must live here, we decided we should really give them houses. We started with one.

So my son now believes the fairies protect us. Ok he still thinks a fairy has an engine and wheels, and doesn’t really understand why they would want to sleep outside, but he’ll get it!

Chicken pox part 2… The baby!

Yep, you read it right, our now 7 months old got the chicken pox. Fun, fun in the sun…! ugh.
AND she got it just as bad as her brother did. More fun fun in the sun!
The poor thing, they can’t exactly scratch or know what’s going on at that age.

I tried so many things, the things that worked the least: chemical crap the pharmacist gave us.

Here she is, just before it got REALLY bad:

What worked best: heavily sipped chamomile tea rubbed on her skin after a bath with oatmeal and nettle.

Worse of it, she got it mostly inside her diaper, around her genitals and butt… She was so clingy, it was as if someone had stuck a post it on me, except that post it was around 17 pound and whiny.

She’s getting over it now, though her butt is still full of polka dots that won’t go because they marinate in the diaper funk. And she thought it was cool to immediately follow with a nice sort of bronchitis from hell. I bet it’s all an excuse to keep the post it disguise! Nah, I’m just kidding, she’s cute, she still smiles. She’s a woman, with more tolerance for pain! hehe
